Congrats, Cory! You made the DEMON POST for this board! *showers you with confetti* s151.photobucket.com/albums/s126/Poofiemus/?action=view¤t=Picture1.pngI still have a mic somewhere in my garage Haruo gave me because it won't work on a mac. XDDD I suppose you're right about the lab, even though I prefer my own computer, and would want to be able to use my tablet. But whatever, we'll see. CS4 is at least 2 or 3 years away anyhow.

weeird, most normal mics work on macs, Hastings has one for like $10 or 20 that worked with my iMac and with the camcorder I've got. I intend to continue using CS3 until it's no longer physically possible, unless I absolutely must upgrade to a commercial version when I am no longer a student - the main reason I needed something faster than the laptop I already had (which ran CS1 okay) or my old FrankenDell, (which I had CS1 on legally) was because of the advance (for me) in camera technology which required a computer with more oomph, to work with photos faster. btw - Chii seems happy enough about the doompost.

Yeah, this one apparently had a weird Windows-only driver.
You've got a point there--and then if there's a CS4 file that needs to be opened, I guess it's possible to just download the trial version for that purpose.
*laughs* I forgot that was the wallpaper that was up when I took that screenshot! Though actually, if the doompost wasn't covering her, Freya's expression might change your mind about that. XD
I keep seeing all these "post your desktop" threads on other forums, but it seems so pointless when you've got about 16 that rotate out every five minutes. :/

I take those as more of a way to show people how you organize your desktop. I could theoretically post mine, it's got like a grand total of five icons on it that aren't hard discs.
windows-only driver? is it a USB microphone or something? most normal mics just need the right port (which admittedly, not all mic ports are the same.)

The manufacturer website didn't have any other drivers? Weird.
I think my desktop has about 12 icons on it total. The picture changes with alarming frequency, though. In one week, I've gone from canabalistic cartoon rats to Cthulu, and on to a comic about someone with oatmeal in his clothes. :?

You should see Venomeye's desktop on DA! It's in denial. XD
Apparently they didn't have any others. Or so I guess. :/ I don't know whether she went on a driver quest or not. It's a natural thing for a Windows user to do, but from what I've experienced, unless they've switched from Windows, Mac users just sort of don't do that. *shrug*
I did that with anime wallpapers on the Frankencompy! I even changed the color scheme to match each one. XD You should have seen my Invader Zim Desktop. It was all purples, pinks, and oranges. =P

I keep a neutral grey color scheme. Grey is one of my all-time favorite colors, and it seems to match everything.
*makes mental note as to another point in Mac's favor*

I change my desktop a lot too, it's currently on what I call "the green circles+swoopies" which I found on dA. I forgot the search terms I used though. It works well on widescreen monitors, despite the fact it was designed for 4:3 display resolutions. (it goes to the extent of including a 1280x960 res, but not a 1280x1024 one.) ohbtwYAY, I get to get CS3. going to get it tomorrow/latertoday, if the bookstore is open.

Mine's a boktai with Django and Sabata. ...I should find a way to draw a wallpaper of them in a bar brawl. I need one that fits a widescreen anyway. And as for the mic... I feel totally embarrassed saying this, but I probably didn't set up the first mic properly and thought that it wasn't going to work. *veryveryembarrassed* If you want to test said theory, bring the mic over sometime this summer. :3 CS3 WEWT!

Bar brawl? Awesome!
I'm having the same high-res problems as you, Cory, perhaps even more so. My screen is a monster 1680 by 1050. =P I can't use anything less than 1200 wide for it to not be pixellated. Do you know how hard that is to find? I was trying to find a Sailor Moon wallpaper yesterday and only found 1024 by 768. It was depressing. I guess I'll just have to make one myself.
I hate to say it, Haruo, but I kind of figured. You've been on Macs your whole life and are not used to extended driver quests. On Windows, if it doesn't work, hunting for drivers online is usually the first thing you do.
I guess we could just try to hook it up to my computer, since it is very similar to yours.
Cory let me play with CS3 yesterday. I didn't notice much difference between the PS versions, but Illustrator is way different! The brush actually works like a brush, and there's an eraser that actually works like an eraser! It's wonderful. ^_^ Illustrator CS3 could get me into vector art, seriously.

Well... I don't think it's a driver problem. I still had to go get the drivers for my tablet and printer after all... I think it's more around the lines of not configuring the computer's setup so it would realize that plugged in mic was the main one instead of the internal mic. =P ...What? I figured it out eventually. XD
You should come over here. Why? Because Ursula needs spazzers. XD
So lucky you got to play with CS3! The only difference I recall knowing for Photoshop was that filters would be layer effects and therefore could be turned on and off and schtuff. I'm betting there's more to be excited over, but that's what caught my eye. =P The brush works like a brush? Yay! Have you messed around with Live Trace at all? That's one thing the first CS doesn't have that the next ones do. If you get the hang of it, you might be able to resize the lineart on any wallpapers you really want...
...*joins the bar brawl with a bottle of root beer in hand* WHOO!

The other main difference for CS3 is that they changed the icons. Oh, and it runs fast on intel macs. .mmm... drivers. You gotta love 'em. Another way to combat the desktop picture dilemma is to take photos and use Photochop to resize them to the appropriate size, Every so often I'll use a landscape/architechture/portrait as a desktop. Hmm, a bar brawl eh? I can't say I'm very experienced with those. Though, I suppose I could join with my plastic chocolate milk bottle. - Or, I could take a photo and set it as my desktop.

Please don't tell me those are the only changes between the versions, I would cry.
I also have a question on the Adobe note. I still have the ancient version of Flash 6, and I was wondering if I could just purchase an upgrade, or would I have to buy the new version at full price. UGH! I wouldn't need to be doing this except my problems stem from action script. Stuff that's breaking should NOT be breaking!!! I have to re-write exact carbon-copies of code to get something to work again. I mean, it's the same thing. WHAT. THE. ZEUS.
Hey zeus. As for the screen resolution problem... ugh widescreens are hard to find wallpapers for. Wouldn't resizing them in Photoshop cause too much anti aliasing and it would be pixelized? Unless you made it to a certain degree, then just put a background behind the background. OR OR OR OR I just got two amazing unbelievably awesome ideas. You could have TWO wallpapers at once! <edit> just put them in one image, they'd be entirely seperate still. Also, another idea is too take a print screen of your desktop, paste it in a program, then set it as your wallpaper. Move around your icons and let the fun begin. </edit> (I hit post before I could finish, sorry)
I will join this bar-brawl, armed with label-less soda cans. If those count.

There are more new features, bugfixes, etc etc in the new Adobe (Macromedia) apps, but a lot of them aren't worth mentioning at my skill level because I don't even know how to use the old versions to their fullest. For Poofie and I, the biggest issue is SPEED purely and simple. Even ye-olde Photoshop 7 will run really slow on our shiny new iMacs. I have actually done tests where a newer-ish (1.83GHz/Core1duo, 512mb of ram) laptop performed a specific operation in 32 minutes. My 7-year-old (500MHz/G3, 512mb of ram) PowerBook G3 performed the same task in only 30 minutes and 30 seconds. (ish.) Yes, not a huge difference if you're used to the performance of a g3/500, but the speed difference is tremendous. That laptop with CS3 performed the same task in about 15 minutes. (ironically, my powerbook g3 with CS3 performed the task in 45 minutes. :ouch:) Needless to say, my iMac massively outperforms either other machine, it gets contact sheets done in less than 5 minutes each.

It still takes me a moment to realize that when you say "contact sheet" you're talking about photos and not about people. XD
Well, my issue is not so much that it's widescreen but that it's HUGE. if it's 1200 pixels or more wide, I can usually crop it without too much loss of quality. If it's much less than that, though, it starts to look like crap. (Oh, my roommate finally found some massive Sailor Moon manga art I was able to crop for wallpaper usage; that made me happy!). But yeah, my main issue is pixelation. I have picked up some fantastic pictures off of a website called InterfaceLift, but my inner fangirl has a fit without some of my favorite anime represented in the mix. =P I remember searching for three hours before finding just two FullMetal Alchemist wallpapers I could use.
By the way, I have vowed that I will make high-res, widescreen wallpapers for 25CH someday. It's just wrong for me to allow you all to suffer the same irritations I do.
