Having worked in retail for most of my life, I've seen first-hand how desparate owners are to get rid out outdated or unselling merchandise. It gets to the point where you don't care about profit as long as it goes. I suspect that has a lot to do with it.

Really? That's interesting, if those sales worked with their "Free Super Shipping" club deal, you could build a library for 50 bucks.

Yeah, but if it's obscure, how good would the library be? I'm a huge fan of book shopping at thrift stores. On a recent foray, I made off with about twenty music history texts for about $10.

Not sure how to answer that, but knowing the differences between the two worlds, I'd think you'd be right. Sounds like a good deal... I love going to thrift stores myself, you never know what people leave there. There was one with a whole room full of eight-track equipment! I'm always looking for classic NES games, as those are some of my favorites.

I used to have an NES. My mom threw it out when I was about eight. She's not a huge electronics fan. Looking back, I'm probably better off. Young children get sucked into video games and lose their muses before they ever realize they need one.
She did make up for it, though. When us three older children were in college, she bought us a PS2. Sadly, my brothers took it when they moved out.

My mom's a pack-rat, she'll keep everything! We have so much old stuff laying around here. That's really the only console I play once in a while. I have never played the newer stuff, I guess I like old school games. I mean, my favorite one is Doom for the PC.
Splitting shared valuables like that when siblings go on their own is always so complex, and can sometimes mean alot of arguments and headaches. I'd find myself being a minimalist in that case, as I personally don't like having a lot of posessions.

It's kind of funny. For the longest time, my sister, the youngest, swore up and down she'd be the first to move out. She's 18 now. It was my brothers, 20 and 22, who were actually the first, last summer. I was a surprise. End of December I got a job offer, I moved out the end of January. Splitting up the posessions wasn't too bad. We've all worked at our parents' store for as long as we can remember, so we all had our own TVs, VCRs, DVDs, computers, cell phones. It was only the gaming thing, and at the time, they didn't have cable, so it was only fair. Now they have cable and I don't. Oh well. I got the scanner.

I'm going to be moving out a SECOND time to work this summer, ughhhhhhh. Last time I moved I didn't have a 22" monitor with me, and it weighs like 100 pounds. I have no idea how I'm going to get it anywhere without breaking it. When the UPS guy delivered my monitor he lifted the giant box with it and 40,000 packaging peanuts inside like it was a feather. I still can't get over that. My brother moved out to Phoenix (lives in Virginia now) six years back, he took all the computer and all the computer games.
Hey, the scanner was the important thing! I hate having to use my scanner, I'm on a network with two other computers right now. It's weird, you have to turn them on in certain orders to get all the peripherals to work. Then I have to go over to the scanner in the other room, scan it onto that computer, then use the shared folders to bring it to my computer. SUCH a pain. Then if you get the startup order wrong, nothing gets recognized! It's very confusing.

I moved into the dorms here in August, and will have to move out again in three weeks. @_@ That's going to be a bit crazy, I'm sure...
22" monitor? Mmm...must be glorious! I have a 20" iMac, and some weekends I have to take it home with me because my mom's Windows computer doesn't have all the software I need for my crazy major. I kept the box for that purpose, since the computer, keyboard, mouse, and remote all fit nicely in there, but I think I need to get a carrying case because the box is dying...
And yes, the scanner was the important thing! You can create, while your brothers are stuck observing existing works. Bwahaaahaaa!
Venom, it sounds like your network is evil. Or possessed. Or maybe possessed by something evil. Maybe something evil called Microsoft? *bricked for being a Mac fan*

So you're moving again too huh? WHAT a coincidence, moving is always crazy.
Ahh yes I love my 22" monitor, I got it from Tigerdirect for around $80-$100. When I first got it, everything felt so colossal that I could hardly stand looking at it, a big change from that 16 inch, of which suddenly died for *no* reason. Microsoft is evil..... I mean they have billions of dollars and tons of professional software writers to create Vista and it has more flaws then a brand of Linux that was created by a bunch of hobbyists with almost no funds. When it comes to it XP isn't that bad, I mean, my computer has never crashed or fully locked up once, and I keep my entire startup routine completely free of junk so it starts up in 15 seconds after I push the power button. Maybe that's just me, I got lucky.
I'm indifferent to the flavours of OS's out there as long as it works for the person using it.

My friend's trying to get me to go Mac. He's got Macs at his job, and Windows at home, and he'd much rather have the Mac. He's a graphics designer, so he'll be running four or five huge design programs at once. I'm interested in more composing and recording. At the moment, I can run Outlook and occasionally the internet in the background with my music writing software. If I want to export an audio file from the music though, I have to shut down EVERYTHING, including virus protection, firewall, and the DSL connection. I must say, he's making some convincing arguments. Money's the big object, though. I have none.

That reminds me of a couple of people that were always talking about the superiorness of their Macs around me, they would poke fun at my poor Windows machine. Sounds like you have a really old computer if it can't handle a single program without needing to remove any other possible leech to memory. I forgot that Macintosh computers cost alot more, probably because they already have everything needed and setup. I don't know why.

I think it's three. It's an instant-computer-in-a-box-just-add-water package deal from Wal-Mart that I've gone all Frankenstein on. I installed my hard drive and CD-ROM from my ten year old computer. I doubled the memory, but I'm still freezing up occasionally. I pulled the internal modem and installed another four USB ports. It was a necessity. Two printers, Scanner, modem, Yamaha keyboard, palm pilot, DSL modem, sound system, and two on the front for jump drives, MP3 player, and camera. I want to use my old ergo keyboard with it, but I can't get it to work all the time.

Hmmm.... If all those program handlers for all those different devices are running in the background (but not noticable) it can really eat at your computer. Like a giant star eating other planets. Terrible analogy.
And by the way.. three what? Or am I missing something?

Oh. My compy's three years old. What I typically do with all those periphials is to use the "safely remove hardware" function a lot. I'll stop a device, but leave it plugged in, and when I open the software for it, it searches and brings the device back online. It beats plugging in and unplugging devices constantly.
