True true! Same here. It's worth it usually to put down the extra cash at the outset. But you have to research it first to make sure it really IS more durable.

That's true...
(Insert some Quantaray/Sigma -related lens muttering here.)
My Nikon and Apple stuff (Apple desktops at least!) have been awesome. I've got Apple desktops more than 15 years old still going strong.

Quality is often worth the extra money. My violin needs repairs that exceed the price of a new one, the exact same kind. And that's with me providing the parts. I'd like a new one, but I'm not really enough of a violinist to warrant a better one.

Ah, I know what you mean about upgrades n' stuff. I'd love to get a nicer, stand-alone scanner (since my mother kinda stole mine), but I can't afford it right now, and will probably end up spending said money on Adobe software upgrades. I'm sure that by spring semester, when my next computer imaging class is, they'll want us to use CS3 instead of CS2. Crazy nutters.

I was thinking of buying Adobe (or Macromedia, I don't know if they still keep that) Flash 9 over the summer... do they sell older versions of it? Is e-bay in the legal zone for that type of stuff? Bah.. I also want to buy a few professional editions for some programming, so I can compile them. I don't like the learning editions! I'd rather go with Flash though.

Actually, Adobe's education versions are the same as the full program, except for 1) the price and 2) the fact that you can't buy just the upgrade version when the next one comes out. You have to buy the either another edu disc or shell out for the whole program, depending on whether or not you still have a valid student ID.

Well I have doubts that the improvements in the Flash series are really that valuable besides the upgrades in Actionscript, so I'll get a student version... which is after the summer is over. No big deal. Thank you!

Sometimes the edu versions rock. I have the edu version of Sibelius 4 which is the full program, free updates, and on-line support. It's half the price, though.

Exactly! Cory and I are talking about going halvsies on an edu copy of the CS3 Design Premium. Again, that'll have to wait till after summer, but still...I'm already excited about it!

Poofie, check over the product registration info. Some of the larger, more expensive programs will allow you to have it registered on two separate computers simultaneously. That would be a great benefit to you!

Wouldn't be useful to me but the cheap priced software sounds great!!
On another note... I had a dream about CS3 or something... It wasn't exactly much about the program it self, but a penalty for not using it. I don't remember, it just had it in there.

That means that you long to get laid. That's what all dreams are about, isn't it? At least, that's what Dr. Sigmund told me.

I think the two-computers thing may be Quark XPress and Microsoft Office, but still a good thing to check.
with the Adobe software, it is almost cheaper (at least in CS2) to buy edu than it is to buy the commercial version upgrade. With CS3, it's the same price to upgrade from a commercial CS2 Premium as it is to buy the education license, but that's for design premium, and it presumes you already hve CS2Premium commercially.
I can't wait to try/use/buy CS3!

I know! I can't wait to see how fast it runs on my beautiful Intel Mac. *pets da mac*
I do remember that my copy of MS Office actually came with three product keys. On the other hand, I don't think Adobe cares too much about the edu versions. I gave my CS2 Photoshop edu disc to my uncle, and neither of us suffered any consequences. I think Adobe presumes that you'll have to spring for a full version of the software eventually.
