That's true, there were no dire consequences when I shared my PS-CS disc, but the "calling home" is a new thing since 7, it was added in CS, so if you were using 7 or older, there wouldn't even be any issue. MS Office/Edu actually does give you three product codes, at least the retail edu version. Naturally, I'm also waiting excitedly for Office2008/edu to be available under that $80 MS Office deal at the NAU Bookstore. I basically can't wait to have no Rosetta on my iMac at all.

I've seen some pages produced by the beta version of Word 2007 (which will be 2008 for Mac--we should sue for discrimination or something), and it's crazy. It's like Word is becoming an InDesign wanna-be, as much as Publisher. Very odd indeed.
While I'm excited about eliminated Rosetta on memory-intensive programs like those in the Creative Suite, I can definitely wait for the version AFTER 2008 to get an upgrade. Word runs fine in my opinion, but Photoshop could stand to go faster.

I could actually eliminate Word from my iMac, it runs well enough on my old laptop. I was actually thinking of putting Mac OS 9 on that thing and having it be purely as a work machine, with Office98 (which I do have legally for OS9) and as a machine on which to my writing, plus ripping CDs and storing photos temporarily while I'm out. It's got a big hard drive, which makes it good as a cd ripping machine when I'm visiting people, and for storing photos when I'm on a trip.
To me, Word will always be just that - Word, which is ever more reason for me to just go back to using Word98 I suppose - but they changed the fileformat for 2007/2008, which means I'll have to have that around eventually, I guess.

They WHAT? Those BASTARDS. There wasn't a big difference between Word 97 (which I had on my Frankencompy) and Word 2003, but...Changing the file format? What are they thinking? Do they want to tear the fabric of the universe?!

Duh! Microsoft is totally hellbent on ripping the fabric of the universe. I'm surprised you didn't already know that. Ohwell - MS Word is basically the defacto standard of everything, which makes it difficult for me to want to go ahead and just abandon it in favor of something else like Pages or Appleworks, despite those apps being just as capable.

¬.¬ This may sound sad, but I am seriously miffed about the whole file format changing thing. They reduce us to two options: either loose all compatibility with the rest of the word-processing universe, or make us buy the new version of the software. *growls* I guess the latter is the lesser of two evils, but not by much.

I intended to buy the new version eventually anyway - or pirate it, we'll see.
By the way, Adobe CS3 is in the NAU bookstore right now. It is taking all of my strength not to run down there and buy it Today or Tomorrow. (Sooo Tempting!)

Right now? Oooooh....It IS tempting...But yeah, I need money first. Yay for summertime jobs.

I am going to probably do it sometime next week when I sell back my books. I'm also going to grab one of the monitor adaptors for my iMac - have dual displays over the summer - the better for watching anime or doing chatting while playing with AdobeCS.
If I did buy it soon, would you still be interested in the halfsies thing later on?

hmmm dual dispays.... I have an S-video out hookup for my video card, do I need a signal box to hook it up?? To another T.V. that is, though I wouldn't have much use for it it'd still be fun.

you'd either need a TV with s-video input, or some kind of converter to turn an svideo signal into a composite video signal. A lot of video cards had that bundled.
Svid out isn't the most useful ever, due to the low resolution of NTSC, but it is sometimes useful for presentations or movie viewing.

*pokes Cory* Remind me to get your book back to you before you sell 'em back. *holds up English book* I... think we're done using it? If there are any more group presentations, then I'm supposed to read the article, but otherwise... Me no need it. ...I should just go check. =P
*checks* ...Apparently there's one tomorrow, but I don't know what it was. Oo; After 2:40 tomorrow, I think I can give you your book back. Thanks for letting me use it! ^^;

Wow. Okay, well...I don't think you're going to get enough back from them to buy CS3, but whatever. And yes, I am willing to go halvsies on it! I mean...DUDE, it's CS3!

Well... I've sort of already got enough already to get CS3, because of something silly the school did with this "student loan refund" shenanigans - I've got "enough" already - the bookselling will go toward the monitor adaptor for the iMac, and maybe some kind of smaller software, I was thinking of grabbing a copy of Toast 8 at some point, not sure though since I haven't needed it yet.
